In the FIEA art track, you’ll collaborate on a variety of team-based projects and develop your individual professional artist portfolio. You’ll sharpen your creativity and art production skills while creating memorable characters, animations, immersive interactive worlds and in-game cinematics. FIEA utilizes industry-standard, art-content creation tools, game engines and platforms employed in the exciting, competitive and rapidly evolving entertainment industry.
Semester I consists of a challenging general game-art curriculum of digital painting and concept art techniques, figure drawing , 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, character setup, animation, and motion capture using our world-class motion-capture facility. Additionally, students wishing to pursue careers as highly sought-after technical artists have the option of attending a scripting and programming class geared especially for artists.
In the following semesters, art track students specialize in 2D, 3D, animation or technical art and attend advanced classes in their chosen area(s) of specialization. Typical areas of emphasis would include concept art and 2D, mobile game art, 3D character modeling, 3D environment modeling, animation and motion capture, lighting, as well as technical art specialties such as scripting and programming tools, special effects, shaders, technical animation and character rigging.
FIEA artists design, concept and create artwork and visual assets for games produced in collaboration with production and programming students while balancing the development of a personal portfolio with opportunities for both personal and team projects.
Note: Although the FIEA curriculum has three main tracks many FIEA students have skills in more than one area. For example, some of our best producers are also great artists or programmers.
As such, the FIEA curriculum is flexible enough to accommodate students with multiple skills. We schedule as few classes at the same time as possible, so students can attend classes outside of their core discipline if they choose.
