In the FIEA art track, you’ll collaborate on a variety of team-based projects and develop your individual professional artist portfolio. You’ll sharpen your creativity and art production skills while creating memorable characters, animations, immersive interactive worlds and in-game cinematics. FIEA utilizes industry-standard, art-content creation tools, game engines and platforms employed in the exciting and evolving entertainment industry.
Semester I consists of a challenging core game-art curriculum of modeling, art in game engines (UE4 and Unity), texturing, digital sculpting, cinematics, lighting, rendering, rigging, special effects and scripting.
Students are also expected to specialize in 2D, 3D, animation or technical art and attend advanced classes in their chosen area(s) of specialization. Lastly there is a drawing fundamentals course that reinforces basic drawing skills like perspective, composition and layout.
In Semesters II and III students will continue to specialize in their area of interest as well as join a capstone game team where they will spend a significant amount of time working on a team-based project through their third semester. FIEA artists design, concept and create artwork and visual assets for games produced in collaboration with production and programming students while balancing the development of personal projects and a portfolio.
In Semester IV students can go on an industry internship for course credit or take an entrepreneurial project course as part of FIEA’s Venture Track while further developing their personal portfolios.
Note: Although the FIEA curriculum has three main tracks, many FIEA students have skills in more than one area. For example, some of our best producers are also great artists or programmers.
As such, the FIEA curriculum is flexible enough to accommodate students with multiple skills. We schedule as few classes at the same time as possible, so students can attend classes outside of their core discipline if they choose.
