What is FIEA? The Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) offers an industry-based education in a world-class facility in downtown Orlando. It offers talented people the best chance to succeed in the gaming industry. It teaches artists, programmers, and producers the techniques, tools and skills that you don't get in a traditional degree program.
What do we mean by this? Most students coming out of traditional computer science or digital media programs have common problems when they get into the gaming industry.
- Inexperienced programmers know how to write small programs, but know little about the software engineering of million-line code bases that today's blockbuster video games require.
- Most students have no experience with the commitment, communication and compromise required to work on a large game-development team.
- Most students know little about real-time programming and nothing about performance measurement.
- Artists know how to draw or model in 3-D, but seldom understand rigging, lighting, and how to integrate artwork into software.
- Students have never really had the "crucible experience" of working against deadlines for real clients, with real products.
So FIEA was started to address these problems. You'll be exposed to a brand-new curriculum in a state-of-the-art environment that mimics the production environments of successful gaming studios. You'll work with teammates to learn the skills and steps of video-game design and implementation. And when you graduate from the FIEA program, you'll have access to internship opportunities and job interviews with game and media companies from across the country. And while the curriculum is brand-new, the degree you earn is recognized and valuable. In just 16 months, earn a Master's of Interactive Entertainment from a SACS accredited institution.
