Rapid Prototypes

These rapid prototype games were produced in a two- to four-week period in instructor Ron Weaver's Rapid Prototype Production course, a boot camp for making your first games and creating innovative gameplay.

Chunky Monkey

Description:

Chunky Monkey is a multiplayer top-down style game that pits players against another in one of three competitive game modes. Each mode offers players different objectives and win conditions.

Instructions:

For more than 2 players, it is recommended to use Xbox controllers with Xpadder. To do so, run Xpadder\Xpadder.exe and plug in up to 4 Xbox 360 controllers. If you get an error while trying to run Xpadder, open its Properties and set Compatibility Mode to Windows XP service pack 3. Configure the button mappings to follow the scheme below. We recommend using the D-pad instead of a joystick.

The game can be played entirely on the Keyboard as well (even up to 4 players). Only Player 1 can control the menus (except Character Select). Do so by using the arrows to change your selections and press the Throw button to proceed.

Cauldron Conundrum

Description:

Collect jars of potion and place them in the matching colored cauldron for the fireworks festival! This competitive two player game has players switching roles between collecting jars and preventing the collector with the use of hazardous objects.

Notes:

This game utilizes a keyboard and a mouse.

Nightmare Patrol

Description:

The Nightmare Patrol stands to protect the world from bad dreams. As a new recruit, you are put through a series of increasingly challenging tests. Your goal is simple: stop Furball from reaching Suzie. Place blocks and use your toys to delay Furball until the sun rises, and you will be victorious.

Forklift Frenzy

Description:

Deliver more boxes then your opponent while avoiding the crazy shoppers that inhabit the store.

Notes:

The game will need to call out to the XML level files for the game to run properly The game is played on one keyboard and will need to have a num pad for both players to be able to play

Boundary Game

Description:

Boundary is a spiritual journey exploring the space between life and death.

Instructions:

Use the arrow keys to move the character left and right with some limited 3D movement; Hold shift to run and jump with spacebar.

Notes:

Game does not reset on death or winning. Quit with ALT + F4.

Together in the Dark

Description:

Together in the Dark is a two-player, co-operative game with voice chat. It takes place on a damaged space station where only two crew members remain. Player 1 has a copy of Player 2's map and vice-versa. The players must communicate via voice chat to help each other avoid deadly areas and make it out of the station alive!

Notes:

In order to play the game with voice chat, you will need to use either Skype or Ventrilo. Ventrilo is recommended for the full experience as it binds talk to the Ctrl key which is used in game to drain the battery.

Pirate Patrol

Description:

Defend your isle from the Commodore's Navy! He be sending his men to take your gold and arrest the three pirate lords. Ram them with ye vessel and defend your pirate honor!

Instructions:

Navigate the menus with the arrow keys and confirm with spacebar. Steer with the arrow keys and ram into enemy ships before they make off with your gold. You lose if all your gold or all three pirate lords are taken off screen.

Notes:

If game does not respond to controls click on game screen.

Hell Hole

Description:

You play as a runt demon who has had a horrible prank pulled on him. He was captured by some menacing demons and placed into his own personal hell: a land filled with cutesy critters. Fight off these cutesy creatures in order to get back down to Hell before the gates of Hell close!

Under Dog

Description:

Cerberus, the gatekeeper and master of Tartarus, has decided to retire after many years of service to Hades. His young apprentice, Cerby, is the forerunner for the position. You play as Cerby and your goal is to impress Cerberus by herding and sorting three types of souls to their final resting place. Sort the souls of the Underworld and become the next Cerberus!

Project Plan-it

Description:

Successfully Terraform a planet by controlling and maintaining the oxygen and temperature of the planet.

Nature's Fury

Description:

Mother Nature is sick of humanity's greed! Move globs of lava by tilting the iPad in order to use the powers of Nature to destroy civilization while leaving Nature intact.

Inkman

Description:

Inkman is a 2D platformer with a twist; the player "draws" the platforms and the character moves on his own. Players will need to use their drawing skills to steer Inkman toward the goal, defeating enemies by erasing them and avoiding obstacles along the way.

Scridoodle

Description:

Scridoodle is a two person challenge racing game. The first version was done in flash and it was ported over to XNA for the polish round.

I Herd Ya

Description:

You are the wrangler. Your aliens have escaped across the planet, and you must re-capture them. The majority of aliens will run away scared from you as you approach. You have to herd them into your transporter. Don't get sucked into your own transporter or you'll be a failure as a wrangler.

Bugaholic

Description:

Quickly spin a spider web to catch enough bugs to fill your target stash before the sun goes down.

Up Your Kilt

Description:

The object of the game is to take over the enemy’s castle. The units at your disposal are an infantry, archers, and a cavalry. Capture the tower to gain resources and increase the unit cap.

Blowfish

Description:

A predator has come from the deep to feast on a rival's young! Be the attacker or defender in this two-person, swirling arcade gem and blow your opponent out of the water! #2 rated game in 2009-10!

Ballocalypse

Description:

An intense, fast-paced, multi-player "Pong meets Peggle" on steroids! Shoot your ball into pegs, power-ups, and your oppenents' goal to amass points and claim total victory. Requires 2-4 Xbox 360 controllers and a wireless gaming receiver for Windows to play properly.

Penguin Pandemonium

Description:

You are a penguin named Leeroy. You have a freakishly long flipper. Everyone makes fun of you! Get your revenge by hurling snowballs at your tormentors using a wiimote or pc controls.

Charged

Description:

Charged is a XNA puzzle game that requires the player to light up all Goal Nodes on a given board using electrical charges. Charged is playable on the XBox 360 and also on the PC. It has 3 difficulties with 10 stages per difficulty.

To run the game you need to run "RunGame.bat" inside the Final Build folder.

enBloom

Description:

Set in a Chinese water garden, enBloom is an iPhone puzzle game similar to the likes of Bejeweled. Flowers bloom in the garden progressively throughout the game. The player needs to "pick" them at their peak in order to earn the highest score.

Notes:

A flash version of enBloom was developed and is the one playable online.

Morphin' Marvin

Description:

You play the role of Marvin, the blue guy. Marvin can transform into Rock, Paper, or Scissors. Coincidentally, he's up against a Scissor monster. Use Marvin's Rock form to break Scissors by running into it with the arrow keys.

Coda

Description:

In this music based game, players navigate through a celestial microscopic world collecting and rearranging cells to create their own musical compositions.

Arcane Fury

Description:

Two to four players match arcane powers with quick thinking as they do battle. Knocking off three opponents in a row unleashes your Arcane Fury, which calls down a meteor to decimate your enemies. Made in Gamebryo and requires 2-4 XBox 360 controllers.

Smashville

Description:

What happens when one monster reaches a city? He destroys it. What happens when two monsters reach a city? They fight! Smashville is a competitive two-player fighter than combines the fun of Pong and side-scrolling shooters, complete with destructible buildings, powerups, and 4 different monsters and cities to battle in!

Noah's Ark

Description:

The floodwaters are rising and there are still animals to save! As Noah, you must capture any male/female pair of each type of animal in every area before time runs out and the flood gets too high! *Can you save the Unicorn?

Axis

Description:

This game is a 3D puzzler where you rotate platforms on all three axes to reach the target.

Spectroids

Description:

A fast-paced arcade game reminiscent of the classic quarter-eaters, Spectroids has you trying to collect enough colored asteroids in order to return to your home planet! This is a simple but highly addictive game, make sure you have plenty of time before loading up Spectroids!

Circle Spirits

Description:

Use portals to leap from planet to planet to save your mother and your land from an evil priest. Battle safari animals along the way in this dark action/adventure game.

Defender Dib

Description:

Take on the role of Zim's arch nemesis, Dib, to take on an army of insane GIR units. Thwart Zim's evil plans by clogging his tubes using your energy bubble or use it to vaporize GIRs. There is also the chance go head to head in multiplayer mode to see who is better at saving the world.

Wind Racer

Description:

In this 3D game, you are piloting a balloon-powered airship through an obstacle course. Although you are being guided by a friend, you are also being taunted by your nemesis. The game can be played with a console controller or your keyboard.

Description:

Based on the popular 1980’s cartoon, this is a two player game in which players can choose to be Optimus Prime or Megatron in the ultimate Transformers battle.

Description:

Description:

You play as Alterra: a hero entrusted with elemental powers that must find ways to help animals in the game by altering their environment. By talking to animals and assisting them, you will be rewarded with new abilities.

Wall-E

Description:

Chaos City

Description:

Description:

Description:

Dark Tower

Description:

Description:

Description:

Flufficutt

Description:

Get a cuteness overload in this networked, 2 player game. Play as either Team Bunny or Team Teddy Bear. Run around a kid’s bedroom collecting objects such as lego pieces and rubber balls to throw at the other team.

Shinobi Storm

Description:

Control the weather as a cloud jumping ninja to destroy buildings on the ground. Use different weather effects to destroy the different building types.

GI Joe - the Curse of Cobra

Description:

Snot Rocket Troll

Description:

Lay waste to the kingdom and leave behind a sticky, gooey mess. Use spitballs, boogers, and earwax balls to bring about your messy revenge.

Lost in a Blackhole

Description:

You have to protect floating critical parts from meteors until there is enough time to get out. Bounce meteors by running into them. Create barriers from the back of your spaceship.

On The Fly

Description:

You are the wife of a stranded astronaut, who is caught in the moon’s orbit. You must get in your hot air balloon to rescue him from the moon. The core mechanic is inserting objects to control the movement of the balloon to avoid obstacles that can damage the balloon.

Candy Coated Catastrophe

Description:

Devilishy delicious devices await your command in this physics puzzle game set in Chocolate Mountain and Candy Castle.

Spaceballs

Description:

Miner Hazard

Description:

Kung Fu Hustle

Description:

Kung Fu Hustle, based loosely upon the film of the same name, is an action-packed third person fighting arena game uniquely using two Wii-motes & nunchuks as the user input. The game is designed so that when the player punches and kicks, so does the hero in Kung Fu Hustle. Use this real-time action interface to defeat the relentless waves of the Axe Gang.

Night Of The Spider

Description:

Batman Bat Bomb

Description:

The Penguin has planted a bomb somewhere at the city dock. It’s your job to find the bomb and give it back to the Penguin as a farewell gift before he leaves in his submarine!

Nano Nobis

Description:

In Nano Nobis, play as Dr. Poindexter von Kingsworth's latest nano tank prototype and shield the CPU from attacking hackers.

Features a scripted story, profesional quality voice acting, a radar system to hunt down enemies, a tron-like glow filter, and introduction cimenatic.

Greedy’s Revenge

Description:

In this twist on the Western, you play the villain in this play with wooden puppets. In Act 1, flee from the good guy to lure him back to town. In Act 2, its a showdown, and you must take the do-gooder down once and for all!

Dog Fight

Description:

Dog Fight is a two-player game in which players choose canine fighters with varied abilities to see who is the leader of the pack!

300 Soul of the Spartan

Description:

300: Soul of the Spartan aims to recreate the bloody tale of how a few stood against many, and where glory was earned through sacrifice. This was the first rapid prototype game at FIEA to utilize our House of Moves studio to completely capture all animations via Motion Capture. Grab your sword and prepare to enter a frenzied fight for your life on either the PC or XBOX 360. Spartans! Prepare for Glory!

Ghost Getters

Description:

The game is of the action/twitch genre. The player takes control of a geeky ghost hunter out to rescue his fallen comrades. With the use of a beam cannon, the player must defeat a swarm of ghosts within a rundown haunted house. The player loses when they run out of life points before all ghosts are destroyed.

Freedom Tales

Description:

Become Bobby Teenager and help defend Anytown, USA from a Communist Robot Invasion!

Cage Fight

Description:

Cage Fight is a head-to-head spellcasting battle where wizards duel to remain alive using their weapons of choice. Wield a magical spell book and pen or a mystical cauldron and enchanted wands to cast elemental spells and send your opponent's cage plummeting into the abyss. Unique RFID and tablet input technology brings players into the wizarding world!

Gone

Description:

You play as Jack, a bomber pilot shot down over the pacific during wartime washed up on the shore of a mysterious island where decisions made here can have quite the unexpected repercussions. To play this game you need: a Wii-mote and bluetooth enabled computer *Your wii-mote needs to be turned on before you start the game.
